June 10 2018 was a big day for our two Carlton Cornwall players Liz Badenhorst and Helen van der Walt where the continuation of the Club Championship Pairs commenced at New Lynn Bowling Club.
Hoping to continue their great form during the previous post section matches, the ladies had tough opposition to face in their semi-final match. Their opposition was Lesley McLinden and Moana Stainton from Mangere. Mangere started with a 8-0 lead after the 5th end. Liz and Helen came firing back to bring the game to a close 9-7 trail after the 10th end. With Mangere still in the lead, they held their lead all the way up to the 18th end where Liz and Helen tied the game up to go into an extra end. Our ladies played an absolutely stunning extra end picking up a 3 to secure the semi-final win 17-13.
Having excitedly secured their win in the final, the ladies had to compose themselves for an ultimate final match against Aggie Motu and Kirsty Hill from Onehunga & Districts. Onehunga & Districts were first up on the scoreboard with Carlton Cornwall right behind them up until the 6th end where Onehunga & Districts lost 5 ends consecutively, Carlton Cornwall had an 11-6 lead after the 10th end.
In the 11th end Onehunga & Districts won a 3 to close he gap 9-11. In the 16th end Carlton Cornwall were only up by 1pt 15-14 and then won the last 2 ends of the match, winning the game 17-14.
Congratulations to Helen van der Walt and Liz Badenhorst for winning the Auckland Women\’s Club Championship Pairs!
