The 2018 Women’s Premier Open Singles was held on the weekend (23/24th September) with 8 Carlton Cornwall players representing the club in the event.
Saturday was qualifying and our club’s players were scattered throughout clubs around Auckland playing to cement their post in the Post Section action. The qualifiers for the day were Linda Ralph and Selina Goddard who advanced through to Sunday. The random draw at the beginning of Post Section play resulted in Linda and Selina playing each other in the first round, and Linda coming out on top after a spectacular performance.
In the quarter final, Linda came across last years winner Paris Baker from Glenfield and won the game 21-7. During the semi, Linda met Grey Lynn’s Rima Stickland and kept her dominating performance going by taking the win 21-12.
The final saw Linda face off against St Heliers Jamie Chen. Linda Ralph started strong taking a 3 in the first end and the a 1 in the 2nd bringing her score to 4-0.After the 6th end the game was tied up 5-5 but then Linda won the next 4 ends bringing her the score to 13-5 in the 10th end. Jamie won the next 2 ends 8-13 after the 12th end. Jamie had a great 14th end picking up 3 but still trailed 14-11. Linda won the next 2 ends and got her confidence back, from here Linda was unstoppable and played an excellent final end to take 3 and winning her the Final 21-13.
