The performance of club member, 19-year-old Selina Goddard, and her selection in the New Zealand team for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is amazing.
She emulates the feat of Marlene Castle who was first selected for New Zealand as a junior. Selina continues a great Carlton Cornwall tradition.
Selina this season won the national fours title and reached the semi-finals of the pairs. She just missed defending her Kittyhawks under 21 singles title at Pakuranga last weekend, reaching the semi-finals. Selina has stood out through her steady draw play and remaining cool and calm under intense pressure on vital, closing ends.
Selina is a member of the youngest ever New Zealand team selected, joining Amy McIlroy and Mandy Boyd, with Nelson club mates Joe Edwards and Val Smith providing the experience.
